Paris… here we come!
Hello!
It’s been way too long since I have written about my journeys around North America and beyond. I have been here, there and everywhere around Canada with my work.. I have been to Victoria (of course!) to attend a Christmas Party and to visit with family – go figure! I had to be in Victoria to get a long overdue brunch in with my Aunt – who lives in Newfoundland!
The Monsters and I had a week long relaxing adventure in Zihuantanejo, Mexico in January. We spent the time with my Aunt and Uncle, and were spoiled with the amazing weather and amazing people. The boys still talk about the trip, and I believe they are planning their return next winter.
Now.. with that bit of catch up done…
In 13 days I am leaving for PARIS.
PARIS!!! FRANCE!!!
It’s been 21 years since I was there, so I know that my perspective will be completely different. I am also travelling with (some of) the women in my family, so it will be extra special. My Aunt, two cousins and my Mom will be boarding a British Airways flight to London, England on March 29. In London, we make our connection onwards to Charles De Gaulle airport in PARIS, France. We will be spending 9 days. We are incredibly excited!
OUR JOURNEY
Travel: As Aircrew, I am very much looking forward to flying on an Airline I have never flown before. I have heard very good things about British Airways. So far, I am not totally wowed by the service I have received in trying to gather information about my flights, however I am walking onboard that Boeing 767 with an open mind and maybe even some goodies for the crew.
Lodging: We will be staying here, in an apartment in Paris’ Arrondissement 1 – close to almost everything you could want to see in the City itself. We are going with a fluid plan. We know what we want to see, but we have no rigid set-in-stone plans – we are going to go where the Spring Paris breeze takes us… and this little apartment will make it very easy for us to do just that!
Plans: So far, we have the normal “tourist” plans. Any one out there have any suggestions on things we should see? Obviously we will see the Eiffel Tower, L’Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame and the Louvre.. there will be shopping… and of COURSE… We will be finding ourselves in some amazing french Cafe, sipping amazing coffee (and/or WINE!) and eating amazing food.
Whatever we end up doing, this trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse ourselves in another culture, all while learning more about each other and ourselves.
Stay tuned for the official one-week countdown, and for updates from the trip!!
Road Trip ’12 – Days 1-3
In keeping with the title of my Blog, I have decided I should probably write something about travelling.
I normally fly everywhere. I am super practiced at airports and air travel in general. As an airline family, it is our go-to type of travel. When I started talking to the Monsters about taking a vacation just the three of us, we decided that we should change up this year, and take a ROAD TRIP. My youngest son (Monster2) is 7 and has really never done a full road trip. He’s camped in a Motorhome, and my (ex)husband and I did take them all in the Motorhome up to the Northwest Territories a few years ago…. but he’s never done anything like the trip we have planned.
We are currently on Day Three of ??? We don’t actually have a set date to return. We don’t actually have every day planned, and I don’t know exactly where we are sleeping every night. This is a test of many things for me. I like certainty. I like KNOWING what is happening. Not having a plan is strange for me, but also liberating. It has been nice to just say “Everything will be ok, and this is OUR Adventure”.
I hope that this attitude becomes a permanent life one for me. This is my adventure, and everything will be ok. I will keep you updated on THAT on my personal blog.
Back to our trip. So far? It’s going well. The boys are happy, they are having fun. I am happy. I am having fun. This is a huge WIN and signifies SUCCESS.
Day One: Day One was also the last day of training for a new position I have accepted at work. I rushed home from that, finished packing up the car, and we started driving West. We made it to GOLDEN, BC. We set up a TENT! IN THE DARK! This was also a first for Monster2. Tenting. Monster1 was so young the last time I pitched a tent that he has no memory of it, so it felt like a first for him as well. Also, did I mention I SET UP A TENT? IN THE DARK?
Day Two: We woke up, and made breakfast. Bacon and Eggs. Awesome camping breakfast! We tore down the tent and managed to actually figure out how to fold it back into it’s carrying case!! We finished packing, and started driving again. This is one day we had a plan. We were on our way toKELOWNA, BC to visit my Grandmother and my Aunt. We stopped at a couple of tourist attractions along the way. We laughed. We sang. We are learning to enjoy the journey, and this makes me happy.
- My Monsters at the Jail
- Happy Monsters beside our tent.
- This picture speaks for itself… two of the more important aspects of life.
Day Three: Here we are! Today we are visiting family and friends here in Kelowna. We will sleep here again tonight. Tomorrow? Well tomorrow is the continuation of our adventure and we aren’t sure where we will end up….
But it will be our adventure.
And it will be OK.
